Maturity Rules
The Maturity and Breeder Awards program is sponsored by the Morgan Horse Club of Washington, Inc. (MHCWS) and is administered by the Maturity Committee, composed of appointed MHCWS members. The Maturity Chairperson is most often the same person who chairs the Halter Futurity and is appointed by the Club President. The Chairperson also serves as a member of the MHCWS Board of Directors with full voting rights (however, only one vote between the two chair positions is permitted).
The Maturity is an ongoing program which follows a three-year-old through the end of its show career.
Funding of the Maturity is through annual nomination fees, and any other fund raising activities the Maturity Committee may choose to undertake.
All horses entered in the Maturity must be AMHA registered Morgans that have been nominated and paid, but not necessarily shown in the Morgan Horse Club of Washington State Futurity. Only three-year-olds or older are eligible for the awards.
An award of $400.00 will be paid to the owner or lessee and $100.00 will be paid to the Breeder of the eligible winning entry. In the event that the Breeder is deceased or cannot be located, or in the case of a syndication that has been disbanded, the Breeder's award will be retained in the Maturity Fund. There will be no limit to the number of awards one horse can win in a given year.
Nomination of a horse is to be made by the owner of record or holder of a valid AMHA lease on or before December 31st of the entry's two-year-old year. Entries are considered nominated when the owner or lessee submits the following to the Maturity Chairperson:
- Name, sex, and AMHA Registration number of the entry
- Owner's name, current address, and telephone number
- Copy of registration papers, front and back
- Copy of valid AMHA lease, if applicable
- A $50.00 nomination fee (checks are payable to MHCWS Maturity)
The nomination of each Maturity entry must be renewed each successive year, whether or not it is shown, in order for the entry to be eligible for the awards for the following year. An entry may drop from the Maturity and may re-enter, but must pay all missed re-nomination fees, plus a 50% penalty, by closing date of show entries to be eligible for the awards for that year. The nomination renewal fee is $50.00 each successive year, and will be considered renewed when the same information as shown above is filed with the Maturity Chairperson by December 31st of each successive year.
A change of ownership will not change the entry's eligibility. However, in the event an entry is sold or leased and the past owner has not kept up the nomination fees, the new owner or lessee may pay up all missed years nomination fees on or before closing date of show entries without penalty to be eligible for the awards for that year. If the new owner or lessee chooses to wait until after the closing date of show entries of that current year, then the penalty clause will be in effect.
All show Championship and Stake classes at the annual C-Fair Charity Horse Show, or show designated by the MHCWS Board of Directors, will be eligible for these awards. All Junior Horse performance Championship and Stake classes to count. Junior or Senior Horse Halter Championships do not count.
ALL CLASSES MUST HAVE A MINIMUM OF FIVE (5) ENTRIES SHOWN AND JUDGED TO QUALIFY FOR THESE AWARDS.
No entry is liable for more than the amount paid in. Payments must be made on time. If payments are not received on or before the date due, owner or lessee forfeits the opportunity to win the awards for that current year. The Maturity Committee reserves the right to reject any entry, or to debar any entry from being eligible for these awards for failure to comply with the rules of the Maturity.
